Almond Tarts, 16th Century, Germany (Tartes de Amêndoas, Séc. XVI, Alemanha).


To make an almond tart, recipe from Mastercook Simon. Let the almonds be pounded small, with them sugar, sweet milk or cream, the whites from four eggs. And put sugar therein, make a tart out of it and let it bake. You should not, however, make a cover on top of it. Serve it cold.

Para fazer uma torta de amêndoa, receita da Mastercook Simon. Bata as amêndoas com um pouco de açúcar, leite doce ou natas, mais as claras de quatro ovos. Junte açúcar, faça uma tarte e deixe assar. Sirva frio.

The Table of Catarina of Austria, Queen of Portugal (16th century).

   On the 14th of January, 1507, was born in Torquemada, Catarina of Austria. She was the daughter of Queen Joana of Castile,"the mad" and the Archduke of Austria and Duke of Burgundy, Philip, "the handsome", who died before she was born. She was named in honor of her maternal aunt, Katherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry VIII of England. She remained with her  mentally unstable  mother, imprisoned at Tordesillas castle, until she was about to marry. Joana was still able to fulfill her duties as a mother and made sure Catarina had the same excellent education as herself, preparing her well for future life at court. Catarina was fluent in Latin, Greek and Spanish. She had religious, humanist and classical knowledge. D. Maria da Glória nasceu em  4 de abril  de  1819,  na  cidade do  Rio de Janeiro, no Brasil.  Era a filha mais velha do Rei Pedro IV de Portugal, Pedro  I do Brasil  e da sua primeira esposa, a arquiduquesa  Maria Leopoldina da Áustria .  Pedro ascendeu ao trono português, em março de 1826, como Pedro IV, porém, rapidamente abdicou em favor da sua filha mais velha, então com apenas sete anos de idade. O infante Miguel, seu tio, veio dois anos depois a usurpar o trono, tendo sido declarado rei em 1828.
